Just a few miles off the Sicilian coast lies an enchanted world ready to be discovered: join us for a truly special open-sea adventure!
In the company of our experienced marine biologists, you’ll spend a day observing and studying dolphins, sperm whales, and other cetaceans in their natural habitat, enjoying the wonders that nature offers in every form.
You’ll be part of a scientific mission, collecting valuable data to help protect these gentle giants and their environment. Every sighting will be a shared emotion and a chance to uncover the secrets of the deep blue!
We’ll meet at 9:00 AM at the Pecorini Mare Port (Filicudi or Marina Corta Port (Lipari) meeting point (if needed, we can pick you up directly at the port.
Before departure, there will be a short briefing where you’ll be introduced to the cetaceans of the Mediterranean Sea and the techniques used to study them.
You’ll learn about current conservation and research projects focused on the Aeolian Sea, about our partners and collaborators, and how important your involvement is in this meaningful mission.
As soon as we are ready, the adventure begins!
On board, you’ll be welcomed by the skipper and one of our brave marine biologists, who will explain basic navigation safety rules before we set off.
The route won’t be predetermined but will follow coasts and seabeds rich in life — the perfect habitat for the giants of the sea. We’ll be “guided” by nature itself, interpreting the winds, currents, and weather conditions from the days before your outing.
Our main goal will be to admire and share the excitement of meeting the great sea dwellers, and to do this, we’ll need patience and continuous observation of the water’s surface — watching for unusual ripples, blows, splashes, and fins.
The best conditions are calm seas and no wind — not always easy to find, but we’ll search for them in the most protected parts of the Aeolian Archipelago.
There are no fixed schedules or appointments: we’re in search of wild animals, free to roam the open sea and capable of covering vast distances in short time.
This means no sighting can be guaranteed, and you should be prepared to spend several hours at sea — but don’t give up: one single sighting brings emotions so intense they will last a lifetime.
Everyone on board can help: you might be the first to spot one!
Around 12:00 PM, we’ll approach the coast again for a snorkeling stop, at one of the most beautiful and iconic spots on Vulcano Island.
Here you can dive in and swim freely, or join our biologist for a guided snorkeling tour — an immersive experience that blends the beauty of the sea with underwater knowledge.
You’ll admire rich marine life, learn to identify species and understand their role in the ecosystem, and develop a deep appreciation for the fragile beauty that surrounds us.
After this refreshing finale, we’ll return to the Port around 14:30 PM.
The activity is available from March to November and is confirmed with a minimum of 4 participants.
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 20 minutes before departure.
The meeting point is not accessible by public transport. It can be easily reached on foot from the port of Vulcano (about a 20-minute walk, 1.4 km on mostly flat ground), or you can contact us to arrange a shuttle.
Pets are not allowed on board.

Our excursions are carried out with full respect for the marine environment.
Loud noises or behaviors that could disturb the cetaceans are not allowed.
Throwing food into the water and playing loud music are also prohibited.
Dolphins, whales, and sperm whales are wild animals, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. In case of no sightings, the ticket cost will not be refunded.
Excursions take place only with good weather and sea conditions and may be canceled in case of adverse weather.
Dolphin Watching

This experience takes place in open sea — we’ll be guests in the home of cetaceans and all the marine creatures that live there.
It’s important to note that our whale watching tours are canceled in case of adverse weather or sea conditions, not only to ensure the comfort of our guests who may not be used to sailing, but also because weather greatly affects sighting chances. Ideal conditions include calm seas and no wind. Since these are wild animals, sightings can never be guaranteed.
What we can assure you, however, is that our extensive experience as cetacean researchers and scientists will greatly increase your chances of spotting dolphins — such as striped dolphins (in open sea) and bottlenose dolphins (closer to shore) — as we navigate through areas they frequently inhabit. In addition, the use of specific scientific equipment, such as hydrophones to listen to cetacean “voices” and underwater noise pollution, and professional binoculars, will further boost your chances of a successful sighting.
Our researchers and marine biologists will remain on watch for the entire navigation, both outbound and return, continuously collecting data relevant to cetacean studies. You and all other participants are welcome to observe and take part in this scientific process if you’re interested. You’ll also receive naturalistic explanations, be introduced to the species encountered, and learn to interpret their behaviors.
Each sighting will follow a dedicated code of conduct designed to minimize disturbance to wildlife and ensure our activities remain sustainable and respectful of the marine environment.
If weather conditions prevent us from departing, each participant will be entitled to a refund or rescheduling of the expedition on the next available date.
If the departure is canceled for other reasons not directly related to our activity, a personal travel fee refund is not provided.

We cannot guarantee the sighting of cetaceans on every expedition, as it depends on highly variable factors such as maritime traffic. However, thanks to our experience, we have designed our expeditions in locations and at times when sightings are most frequent.
